Tree Survey

Plumb Christmas Tree, Plumb Christmas Tree,
How level are your branches!

Plumb Christmas Tree, Plumb Christmas Tree,
How level are your branches!

Plumb Christmas Tree, Plumb Christmas Tree,
Once witnessing a quarter stone,
Now drying up in my living room;

Plumb Christmas Tree, Plumb Christmas Tree,
How level are your branches!

‘Tis not alone in surveyor’s search,
Other witnesses like maple and birch;
It marks the spot for us to find,
For us to measure with others in kind;

Hand-written field notes tell us its distance,
Though with cursive writing in this instance,
Of holy stone buried low in ground,
The pin finder without a sound.

About the Artist

Wendell T. Harness

Wendell was a Land Surveyor for 26 years, then moved on to building websites for his second career. But he never lost sight of the surveying community and the other disciplines related to surveying. He’s purposely stayed involved in the surveying industry because he has always been — and will continue to be — a Land Surveyor at heart.
